Trips Are Easy With The Right Travel Luggage

May 4th, 2009

Luggage manufacturers are open to hearing about the various sizes that travelers prefer to take on trips. Some comments that are presented in the form of surveys are rewarded with cash and prizes that are travel accessories that anyone might use when they travel. These prizes could be a cosmetic case made of finely detailed leathers or it could be an overnight bag that folds up neatly in a closet when not needed.
The people that make luggage want travelers to explain how their trips are easier because of the items they make. Any suggestions for improvements are taken seriously and many changes have been made because consumers picked up a telephone and talked to someone in charge. Traveling with the right luggage might mean the difference between a business trip being a success or a failure.
Some travelers truly appreciate the luggage that is small enough to be carried inside a hotel room without the help of a porter. People have found that they can organize their travels by placing a change of clothing and some toiletries into a piece of luggage and knowing that only that piece will be needed to start the day fresh and clean. Some travelers reserve larger pieces of luggage to store souvenirs in until they return home.
The siding on luggage has changed over the years. Travelers can use stylish compartments to store wet toiletries away from clothing and know just where to find them when they get ready to retire for the night. Some sections in luggage are perfect for storing a variety of shoes, and this area will ensure that the shoes are not mashed down or scratched from other items that are placed in other parts of the luggage.
There are large open spaces inside luggage that can be used to store business suits or large jackets. These sections in the luggage will usually have a place that can be extended to hold hangers in an upright position until needed. This handy luggage accessory will ensure that any type of clothing can be safely packed away until needed and the fabric in these items will not be wrinkled at all.
Travel luggage for children is equally helpful and will often keep a child entertained for hours at a time. A parent can stow away many games and controllers for use on the open road in the compartments of the luggage that children select to use. Some luggage is illustrated with graphical pictures of a large yellow sponge or the image of a favorite cartoon character. The delightful colors that adorn luggage for children is what attracts them to the luggage in the first place.

Trip Travel Insurance For The Traveler

May 4th, 2009

A lot of money is being invested today in traveling. Cruise lines, resort package deals, and air travel can easily run into thousands of dollars. You may have invested some of that money on your trip and can risk losing it all. Some people either don't think of getting travel insurance or they just don't want to. Some may think they are in perfect health and they are physically active, what could go wrong? If something does, they will deal with it then.
Why should you buy travel insurance?
Why not? It's relatively inexpensive. The cost is typically about five to ten percent of the total outlay for the trip. There are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong on a vacation, from a cancelled flight to a serious illness. In some rare cases an act of terrorism or the financial default of a travel supplier can cost money you had originally planned to spend in more enjoyable ways. An illness, accident or other unforeseen circumstance can force a traveler to cancel or interrupt their plans. In that instance they face two major losses: nonrefundable deposits and medical expenses not covered by insurance.
Suppose you find yourself in some mishap that leaves you far from home with no money and unable to keep the reservation you already made with no refunds available. This is when it makes sense to purchase travel insurance. Most trip travel insurance will cover trip cancellation, trip interruption or delays, medical, dental, emergency medical transportation, lost luggage, accidental death, financial default of airlines, and cruise lines.
Here are some common questions often asked by travelers
What happens if a traveler must cancel their vacation?
Often times a traveler could lose nonrefundable deposits and prepayments that add up to hundreds if not thousands of dollars. A good travel insurance plan should provide trip cancellation coverage for the traveler's vacation investment and the insurance company should reimburse the traveler for all pre-paid, nonrefundable expenses.
How does trip cancellation and interruption coverage work?
It reimburses for forfeited, nonrefundable, unused payments or deposits if the traveler must cancel or interrupt their trip due to a covered reason.
Does travel insurance cover acts of terrorism?
Some travel insurance policies do not cover terrorism. They may only cover terrorist acts that occur in foreign countries. Others can cover terrorist incidents both in the United States and abroad.
What is the cost of travel insurance?
The cost of travel insurance is based on the value of the trip. It normally will run between 5 and 10 percent, based on the age of the traveler. Typically, the average cost runs around five to seven percent of the trip cost.
What if the airline, cruise line or tour operations goes default?
Almost all trip travel insurance policies include financial default coverage if the program is purchased within 15 days of making the initial trip deposit.
Always check for duplicate coverage
There are a few types of insurance related to travel that you may not need because you are covered from other sources. Your health insurance, life insurance or even your car insurance polices may have limited coverage. Thus, you could be buying duplicate coverage. It is important to always compare with your existing insurance policies to insure there are no duplications.
Be sure to check the "fine print" for hidden limitations on these existing policies. After researching your current polices, it may seem you are already covered on the surface, but the fine print could limit certain conditions, circumstances, situations or locations. The fine print is written in "legalese" that is hard to understand.

Trip Report: Lamu, The Pearl Of The Kenyan Coast

May 4th, 2009

My first thought upon arriving in Lamu, the pearl of the Kenyan coast, was where have I taken my 7-year-old kid? Dusty, dirty and it smelled, horribly.
Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its cultural significance, is steeped in the Swahili culture that once dominated the East African coast from Somalia to Mozambique. And despite my first impression, it doesn't take long for this backwater town to get under your skin.
Narrow streets, storied buildings, and elaborately carved wooden doors set the backdrop. Donkeys, the town's sole means of transports, provide local charm. But what sets Lamu apart from the beach resorts further south are the people: courteous, welcoming and warm. While one should be aware of small tricks, as of yet, there are few 'beach boys' here.
We spent the first afternoon wandering the settlement's bustling streets, stopping each time something intrigued. Watching locals play Mancala, a board game, was fascinating; their skill only wholly appreciated after we had our first go at Count and Capture, as the game is often referred to in the West. Shopping also proved hard to resist. Kikoi, the striped and plaid fabric worn by men, line shops throughout the 'old town'. And while you may be able to buy the material and get a beach cover made for less than the Ђ5 we paid, negotiating for change may leave you feeling more guilty than satisfied.
Our full-day excursion on a dhow, the age-old Arab vessels that grace the Archipelago's shores, was about more than learning to fish with a line tied to block of wood. No pole. No reel. The journey from Lamu to Manda Beach, only a few kilometers as the crow flies, was a lesson in navigating a channel at low tide. Our lunch - fish, vegetables and rice cooked on an open fire - was a reminder that simple means can result in delicious fare. The mangrove, home to the large crabs on offer at restaurants up and down Kenya's coast, is teeming with bird life and provoked many a whisper, "Mom, look, over there."
On our last day in Lamu, we arranged a donkey ride through a local boy. For my daughter, riding a donkey with a burlap bag for a saddle was one of the highlights of our family trip. But the adventure will just as surely be remembered by the exchange that took place when my daughter's newfound friend appeared at our hotel bearing a gift, ice cream. While my daughter happily shared the bag of cookies she had saved for the flight home, she decided that old baseball caps and t-shirts would make a better trade and should be packed on all future trips.
While the initial impact of Lamu may be strong, scratch the surface and pour on. You can't judge a book by its cover, you know.

Trip Preparation For Hiking Vs. Package Holidays

May 4th, 2009

Imagine you are a tourist in a new city. You found one of the best package holidays you've seen in a few years and are now enjoying your luxurious holiday rental in the popular downtown area. Everything you need is only a short distance away. Even as a "tourist," you really are not too concerned about getting lost and rightfully so. You can always ask a local resident or purchase a map from the local gift shop.
Now, picture another scenario. You have decided to get away from the fast-paced city and this vacation you are going to head experience the great outdoors and are looking forward to a hike through a beautiful, scenic national park. You have done your research and purchased the essential items, including a GPS unit to navigate your way through the park. Or, maybe you opted for a traditional map or a compass.
These items are great, but it is always a good idea to have some knowledge of traditional navigation skills to fall back on. Maps can be lost. You could break the compass or the batteries could run low. Or, you may find that your GPS device does not work in the area you are hiking.
As mentioned above, it is always best to be prepared by having some basic knowledge of navigation that depends only on your intelligence and eyes. Fortunately, it really isn't that complex or difficult to understand. You may even surprise yourself as far as how much you already know.
For instance, most people are well aware that the sun rises in the East while setting in the West, but keep in mind that this is not an absolute truth. It is sometimes harder to judge during the middle part of the day or being away from the equator. The sun will be south of you in the Northern Hemisphere, but after approximately an hour it will have moved enough so you can get an idea of the general direction.
Also, note where the sun is at half-hour intervals so you can create a mental directional line of where it moves which will provide you with an East-West line. Once you have an East-West line, you can then easily determine North which is 90 degrees to the right of West and also South direction which is 90 degrees to the left.
Finding your way at night can be more challenging but you can still use the stars. You can use some of the major constellations such as the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt. The Big Dipper is a group of stars resembling a cooking ladle, and the two stars at the bottom of the scoop create a line pointing to the North Star. If you find the Orion's Belt, you will see that three of its stars form a fairly straight line across the East and the West. As you see, you can use the stars to find the general direction just as you did with the sun.
Generally, the most important thing is to have a back-up plan and refresh yourself on some of the basic navigational knowledge. You might be glad you did!

Trendy Tags For Bags

May 4th, 2009

Losing your luggage at the airport would ruin your perfect vacation. Just when you thought that nothing would go wrong, and what is more, you had already attached your name and address to that perfect bag you bought especially for the trip. Yes, someone could return your bag within 24 hours but it won't arrive in your hotel room in Ibiza, it will instead arrive at your apartment. What you should have really done was take safety precautions in making sure your bag will not end up in a mix up at the airport.
There will always be trouble when you try to find your luggage at a very busy airport, never mind identifying one. Most bag tags are completely unreliable when it comes to crucial times like this, so what you really need is a tag that is uniquely yours. Not only can you travel in style, you won't have to worry about losing your belongings anymore.
Personalized tags come in different shapes and sizes. Want to match it to your likings? Get one in your favorite color or the color that is a contrast to your bag. These tags are fun too; this is because they come in larger sizes with sports related motifs like football, golf and soccer to name a few. These bag tags are made from fiberglass and are usually attached with a split ring. The two sided clear pockets are handy too. On one side, you can fill in with you details while on the other, you can write your destination so that if you really had lost your bag, it would come to you, not end up at home waiting for you to return after a week. Fix your bag with a matching strap; this makes it noticeable when you try to look for yours when you see two or three bags similar to yours.
If you are in sport team of your college or high school and would like to be exclusive in creating an image for your team, you can have personalized tags for all your players. Instead of only imprinting your soccer team logo or school logo, now you can even put your team photo on the tags and have their names on the other side of the tags. As it usually comes in variety of colors and designs, it would certainly look cool and chic to have these one-of-a-kind tags dangling from your knapsack.
Whether it is for your traveling bag or to show a sense of camaraderie between your sport teammate, a personalized bag tag will definitely give you a sense of uniqueness. What makes it irresistible is the fact that you can order the cute little tags online. That way, you won't have to waste your time browsing through one shop after another. With just a click of the mouse, you can have your desired tag in no time.

Treetops Is A Kenya Safari Holiday Must

May 4th, 2009

Treetops Lodge in Aberdare National Park is probably the best known safari lodge in the world, and is certainly a place to have on your Kenya Safari holiday agenda.
Treetops isn't a lodge you can just arrive at, you need to book in at Outspan and you are taken from there by bus.
Treetops Lodge is run by Aberdare Safari Hotels, and is very much an over night destination, and you are only allowed to take an overnight bag. It was originally built in a chestnut tree, and is now built on stilt supports overlooking a waterhole and saltlick very close to the elephant migration pathway to Mt. Kenya.
A quick tip, if you are arriving during the cooler months, pick up a blanket as you enter, because it gets cold at nights, bearing in mind the altitude.
On this part of your Kenya Safari Holiday most of your game viewing will be at night, and Treetops hs its own thousand watt artificial moon. Please note all hard soled footwear is banned, because of the need to keep noise levels down.
Treetops rooms are small, but they do overlook the waterhole, and they do not have ensuite facilities, they are shared on a single sex basis. Each room has a buzzer which will go off during the night, two buzzes means a special visitor, such as a lion, rhino or leopard.
Treetops is totally different angle on a Kenya Safari Holiday, and this is based on years of visitors agreeing this is an outstanding safari stopover.
The game viewing is unsurpassed from several observation lounges, including an underground closeup spot where you can virtually reach out and touch the animals, were it not for the safety screen.
You can view elephant, rhino, lions, sometimes all too real if a family of lions makes a meal out of an unsuspecting bushbuck.
Visit Treetops on your Kenya Safari Holiday in Aberdare National Park for an unforgettable safari experience.

Treat Yourself To A Relaxing Get-away At A Bed And Breakfast Accommodation

May 4th, 2009

Spring Break is here! Going on a short vacation is a wonderful and relaxing way to take a break from the hurried and stressful lives that so many of us lead. Career pressures, family problems, and a number of other issues seem to crowd our daily lives until we feel like we may explode. That's the first sign that it may be time for vacation.
Taking a vacation with your family, your spouse, or even a close friend can be a fun and exciting time. It's a great way to help your family become closer or a marriage to become more intimate and stronger. Finding a quality bed and breakfast accommodation to fit your style and budget is a perfect place to spend the nights of your vacation getaway.
Why Choose A Bed And Breakfast Accommodation Instead Of A Hotel
Many people are not familiar with the plentiful bed and breakfast accommodations that span the landscape as well. They may think that a hotel or motel are the only accommodation choices available. However, a bed and breakfast offers many features that a hotel does not, namely a personalized experience that is fitted to your individual needs as a couple or a family.
One unique feature of the bed and breakfast is that the customer is usually provided with a gourmet breakfast which is included in the price of the room. Bed and breakfast accommodations can be situated in a variety of landscapes, such as a mountain hideaway or a beach setting. Different styles of homes are often turned into fine bed and breakfast accommodations. Old, vintage style homes are often renovated and turned into Victorian homes which offer fabulous furnishings and antique appeal.
These homes are often very friendly in nature, as the owners like to get to know their guests and treat them as old friends or family members. For those guests who enjoy a more private vacation, the hosts often leave a couple alone and only intervene on an as needed basis. Separate bungalows or cabins are sometimes a part of this experience as well, depending on the layout of the bed and breakfast.
No matter what type of vacation you are looking forward to, a bed and breakfast accommodation helps the experience to be memorable for all. For those taking children along, there are many bed and breakfasts that are child-friendly, offering a pool or other fun experience. Bed and breakfast accommodations are a comfortable and affordable way to spend precious vacation time in a home away from home.

Travelling With Pets

May 4th, 2009

If you're moving or you want to take your pet on holiday with you, chances are that you will want fly to wherever you are going to. So it's good to know what you can do and what you can't so your pet is exposed to as little trauma as possible. If you know in advance exactly how you can travel with your pet, it means you don't have to waste time at the airport which could be tough on you and your pet.
Traveling with pets means you are subject to a different set of rules. It would help if you are familiar with them even before you book your tickets. First of all, check whether the airline you plan to go in allows pets as not all do. Then clarify if the pet you have will be allowed onto the flight. Again, certain pets might be allowed, certain others may not. If you go ahead and book without being sure, you could end up at the airport with your pet and not be allowed on board. Be very specific when you ask for information before you book your ticket.
You will have to bear in mind that your pet will have to be kept contained during the flight. So your dog or cat or bird will have to be put into a carrier. Again, enquire about what kind of carrier needs to be used. Not all carriers are allowed on board. Then find out whether your pet can travel with you or has to be checked in like baggage. Some airlines insist on this. There are a few rules you will have to follow if you take your pet into the cabin with you. Your pet can in no way affect the well-being or the peace of the others passengers. Remember not to place the carrier on any seat, even if it is empty and do not place it on the aisle where it can trip up a passenger or a member of the crew. Each airline has its own set of regulations over and above this.
Ensure that all your pet's documents are in order. Here again, it would be good to check when you are booking your ticket so that you have enough time to make sure all his vaccinations have been done and no shots that need to be given have been forgotten in that last-minute rush. These are necessary not only to protect your pet but also all the other passengers he is traveling with. Some airlines need for you to have a medical examination just before boarding so they are assured that your pet is healthy enough to fly.
Once you have everything ready, your tickets, your pet's health papers, the right carrier, make sure that you get to the airport earlier that check-in time. This just helps iron out any last-minute hiccups should they occur. And you can, no doubt, have enough time to sort out things and board your flight without problems. Both your pet and you will have to go through airport security and your pet too will have to go through the metal detector. It is likely that the pet carrier he is in will also be subject to checking. It usually involves sending this through the X-ray machine together with your carry-on bag. In this case, very often, it is just the carrier that goes through, not your pet.
However, there are airlines that say a big No to pets. Which is why it is so important for you to make sure whether or not your pet will be allowed well ahead of your traveling time. Some airlines that do allow you to might charge quite a bit extra for a pet. Do enquire about all the details before you buy that ticket!
